The wind remains westerly the next day too, which means full offshore at Flag Beach. We spend the whole day travelling to every conceivable bay that looks kiteable on Google Maps. Kitebar with a westerly wind requires a coastline to the north or south.
Puerto Lajas: black volcanic sand, but again only rough volcanic rocks with thick bone-crushing holes at the nod exit south. Caleta del Fueste: A small sandy bay, but covered from the wind thanks to the many hotels behind it and too crowded even in the low season. Gran Tarajal: Beautiful sandy bay facing south, but there is not enough wind. Tarajalejo: Long free sandy beach, again no wind. Down to Rene Eglis Sotavento.
A few isolated students whose kites are constantly falling backwards out of the sky due to the lack of wind. El Pared: A little more wind, but hellish waves between thick lava cliffs in the water. Frustration. Dominik goes out in Tarajalejo with too little wind. His kite smears, I save him by swimming. Back to Corralejo. 300 kilometres for nothing. Frustration.
A kiter invites us to a poker tournament. Dominik almost comes third in round one. But first we each lose 20 euros. In round two, I win 45 euros. We spend our Saturday night in Corralejo until just before five o’clock. Dominik asks for directions to his hotel, but has stupidly forgotten its name.
