I’ve got the third world travelling blues. Not a melodic one, more one with a down-tuned fourth. I’m a soaked sponge, and not because of five days of constant rain. Everything is moving at breakneck speed. After the USA, I thought it was because I was travelling too fast. But it wasn’t. The world goes by even faster when you stand still.

I thought long and hard about whether I should write something about it. It’s not a crematorium blog. I’m putting it online now because I think that a journey without a low point can’t deliver any high points. So I guess that’s part of it.

I’ve hardly asked anyone for their name for weeks now. My skull is a swarm of forgotten salutations, although my memory for names has improved dramatically. The chronically repeated questions among world travellers: Who? Where from? Where to? bore me beyond words. At the first “Why?” I would jump for an unexpected question that I couldn’t even answer.

World travellers are infinitely similar in their differences. You can see what happens when everyone is completely different in the new housing estates in Munich Neuperlach: Grey uniformity of 138 different haphazardly mixed colours. For the first time in years, I long for a really boring person.

The Frequently Asked Questions are more gruelling than a “What am I” marathon with Robert Lembke on Tramal. I watch, listen and keep quiet. Everything said. The only thing that has moved me for days is the ocean current when I swim out to the reef and the big waves every afternoon.

What’s the point of travelling if you don’t want to see or hear anything? I stand still in the rain. I desperately need a change from travelling the world. I should settle down somewhere, or tour with one or two people for longer than 7.5 seconds.

Need more time for that. Today I extended my trip by almost 4 months. Postponed 5 weeks more in Fiji and New Zealand, 5 more in Australia and 5 more in Thailand. Suddenly, the one-third world-travelling blues have turned into one-quarter world-travelling blues. Germany, cya in June 2008.
