The time on Boa Vista was good. Travelling with highs and lows, lots of surprises and few expectations. Good people, good food, good music. Our Italian hosts at Residencial A Paz invited us to dinner several times. On the last evening, we get our revenge with a four-course meal.

At the end of my trip to Boa Vista, I get to know some of the inmates of the ****** RIU Karamboa Camp. They pay only slightly more for all-inclusive luxury than I do for ** with breakfast. But I still wouldn’t swap. I have less luxury and more fun. My money is better distributed.

There are no more flights to Munich, so I fly to Düsseldorf. My plane arrives exactly 15 minutes after the departure of the last train to Regensburg. The next one leaves in six hours at 3am.

I eat a burger. In Cape Verde, fries were an epiphany wherever I went. Chicken tasted like meat and chips tasted like potatoes. A little bored, I wave the flabby, tasteless things around and feel at home.

What is home? Service is German. The Sixt woman answers my question about a hire car even before I ask her: “150 euros minimum. And take care of your luggage!”. Germany is expensive. I’m looking for a WiFi hotspot. Vodafon only wants 8 euros an hour. I close my eyes and dream myself back on the beach in Boa Vista as a beggar scrounges a euro for a burger.
