La Fortuna: Rien ne vois plus

The Inuit may not have 17 words for snow, but the Ticos know 21 words for rain – and one for fate. During our two days in La Fortuna, we see the Arenal volcano up to an altitude of 20 metres, despite two days of continuous rain, and dripping mud monsters return home from hikes.

The number of five-star resorts is only surpassed by the price of drinks. Six US dollars for a can of beer is a top value even in expensive Costa Rica. There is nothing that is not available here: Rafting, zipline, hot pool, night hike, horse riding, mountain biking, quad tours and, of course, volcano climbing.

We are simply overwhelmed by the possibilities. As always, Hamburg goes full throttle until six in the morning. I write from two in our lovely “Gringo Petes” hostel.

Up until now, I didn’t really consider alcohol-fuelled blogging to be an extreme sport. My laptop teaches me otherwise with its unfortunately only 75% completed backflip from the upper bunkbed. It is a high-risk sport.

The display is dead. Rien ne vois plus. That very night I try to contact Samsung and think about hiring the Condor dung flies to fly in a replacement display.

On my trip around the world, my car finally died in a town called Cardwell. Today my laptop in La Fortuna. I’m sure there will be no pictures or work for some time. Thanks for the passwords, Daniel!
