I realised that I didn’t actually spend a single day – or at least half a day – just lying on the beach on my big trip. There was always a cave to explore, a mountain to climb or a lagoon to explore. As long as there wasn’t enough wind for kiting, of course. It’s different here and it’s good.
Sometimes there is wind, but the forecasts are practically never right. In any case, there is also more wind than expected on the east side of Corsica, mostly side-onshore. I was out briefly on four out of seven days with the 19 Assault. Some fun on the water in the setting sun. Then a game of volleyball and the evening begins with a barbecue, wine and a beach fire.
The web design is going quite well with a cosy four hours a day in Rosie’s beach bar. We work in the mornings and have the afternoons off. We drive to the mountains. On the way, we pass large herds of mouflon. David: “You’re all going to die!”. We drive on. We look for mountain streams that are suitable for swimming and jumping. A bit difficult in midsummer, there’s not much water.
Suddenly, shortly after Sampiolu, we find ourselves in front of an adventure park. Sure, try it out straight away. I would never have thought that 10 metres up a tree could feel so high and that I would need so much strength to shake despite always being double belayed. The highlight is a 250 metre long zip wire across the entire mountain valley. Despite the great height, we work up quite a sweat in the hour we need for the course.
