Half time

Today is exactly the halfway point of my world trip. 182 days. It’s raining, but it doesn’t matter. I let the girls drive me from Gisborne to Napier. Taking a breather. Half a year of travelling is over. I set off to find something. I don’t know exactly what. All I know is that I haven’t found it yet. But I’m on my way. And will recognise it when it’s there.

Travelling means something of everything to me, the bad and the good. Much more of both than at home. From all directions. I can no longer imagine how that would work: living in one place. What would there be to experience? How could I beat boredom? How could I sit so still in my favourite pub for so long? Values of screaming restlessness…

My job is a vocation. Web designer is the only job that you can really do almost anywhere in the world without compromising on quality. My court marshal is Skype, my ship is MS Filezilla, the screen is Dreamweaver and the world is the stage. Wouldn’t it be stupid if I didn’t continue to utilise this brilliant advantage of my profession?

I’m going back to Germany in June 2008. I’m definitely not going to settle down again straight away. I’m going to do a bit more travelling first, I met a lot of good people on the trip and in the few years before that. Once through the whole of Germany, Berlin, Hamburg, Frankfurt, Munich, Allgäu. Up to Denmark, down to the Cote d’Azur. To Italy? Or Austria? Then comes a big decision. To stand or to walk.
